Tỷ phú Sheldon Gary Adelson sinh ra trong một gia đình rất nghèo ở Boston ngày August 4, 1933. 

Năm 12 tuổi phải đi bán báo. Adelson không tốt nghiệp đại học nhưng cực kỳ nhậy bén. 

Năm 1979 ông thành lập hãng Computer Dealers Expo (COMDEX). đã tổ chức nhiều computer shows tại Las Vegas cho các hãng IBM, Apple, Microsoft. Thương vụ năm 1987 đã tới 250 triệu đô la. 

Năm 1988 ông mua Sands Casino ở Las Vegas, rồi Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and the Sands Expo and Convention Center và chủ các casino cực kỳ sang trọng ở Macao, Bethlehem và Singapore.
